Humor and playfulness transform this fitness icon into a cabinet of modern vanitas
Rolf Sachs
A multi-disciplinary artist based in Rome, he brings a unique conceptual approach to various mediums including painting, sculpture, photography, and design, as well as architectural projects. Since the 1990s, he has been redefining the use of materials and processes, giving everyday objects a new meaning.
The artist applied his distinctive playfulness and humor to transform the iconic Technogym Bench into a cabinet of modern vanitas named David’s Bench. The careful selection of objects prompts us to reflect on the role of vanity in our society. The kitsch green plaster David evokes the cult of the perfect body, while the ‘Life Elixir’ bottle symbolizes the contemporary obsession with longevity.
