Speed meets art: the Mercurio bench embodies movement itself
Elena Salmistraro
Milan-based product designer and artist, in 2009 she founded her studio, working on projects spanning architecture, design, fashion, and visual arts. She collaborates with leading international companies as a designer. In 2023, “Forbes” listed her among the 100 most successful Italian women of the year.
The artist's interpretation of the Technogym Bench, Mercurio, reflects on sports as movement, drawing inspiration from the ancient bond between humans and gods. The designer selected Mercury, the god of speed, to embody the idea of movement in an abstract and contemporary way. Wings, legs, and streams of lines overlap to create a colorful figure, running so fast that the wind distorts its features.

Design to Move
A special exhibition held at Technogym Milano during 2024 Design Week, Design to Move explores the unique and profound connection between design and wellness, style and functionality, emotional and tangible. The exclusive Technogym Bench collection, beyond its functional use, serves as an artistic expression and a symbol of social responsibility. After being showcased at Milan Design Week, the creations will be auctioned off in collaboration with Sotheby's and sold on technogym.com. All profits will be donated to UNICEF*.
