Champions Train with Technogym: Twanisha Terry

US 100m sprinter Twanisha Terry, AKA TeeTee Terry, says that whilst gearing up for Paris training with Technogym, she hopes to inspire others.

Nicknamed ‘TeeTee’, Miami-born runner Twanisha Terry is already familiar with winning gold, after winning two medals (one gold) as part of the US women’s 4 x 100m relays at the 2022 World Athletics Championships.

The 25-year-old 5 ft 5 in pocket rocket specialises in the 100 m sprint with a 2022 personal best of 10.87”. This year she says: “I move to inspire others and now I move for Paris”. Could the Paris 2024 Olympics see Twanisha trump this time and win yet another medal? Her gruelling training schedule is certainly gearing Twanisha up for the big event.

Speaking of a typical day of training  Twanisha says:  “From 9 am to 2 pm every day, I train at the track and then once we’re done at the track I go to the weight room. We do 100 metre strides on the track to get the body a little warm. After that we stretch for about 30 minutes then we do a lot of sprint drills; we activate the muscles, the hamstrings, the glutes, the calves, then we usually get our sprints in whether we’re using the blocks or we’re doing some turn work. After that we head to the weight room once again; we usually do upper body on a certain day and then lower our body on a certain day.

TeeTee highlights the relevance of gym workouts in sprinting, saying that gym practice is fundamental for her training as it allows her to be prepared to carry us throughout the whole season. With the support of Technogym of course, Twanisha says her favourite weights day is a lower body day.

We get our muscles really ready for strength and power; we need that as sprinters. My favourite machine in there is the Leg Press by Technogym. My coach would say Skillmill is the best: it is a good machine for our sprinting. Technogym equipment really allows us to be able to fulfil our goals in the weight room on leg days.

Programming, precision and attention to detail are also pivotal in Twanisha’s training: “Considering I run 100 metres and compete with the best in the world, it comes down to technique and who can handle pressure.

But pressure is something that Twanisha is all-too familiar with. When she was just 19, TeeTee made the history books when she became the joint fourth fastest under-20 woman for her 100m time of 10.99” at the Mt. SAC Relays.

Now for Paris, she’s ready to ‘go out and have fun’. Before she races though, Twanisha will be mentally preparing herself: “I try to let myself go through anything that it needs to. Whether it’s wandering thoughts or I’m nervous or anything like that, I let myself think all those thoughts. When I get to the line I want to clear my head and focus on what I need to execute and what I need to do to win the race. There’s only one winner so you get to see who’s the best on that day.
